Designer is the primary tool used to configure and customize Cityworks.  Designer allows the Cityworks database administrator to set up domains, assign user rights, import table data and codes, create request and work order templates, define employee lists, and perform other basic software setup functions.  This includes organization of hierarchies for requests, tasks, materials, equipment, and contractors; additional information for permits, work scheduling, and measurement labels; ArcGIS configuration; and a host of others.

Cityworks supports a robust security model well suited to enterprise asset management.  Through the implementation of domains and domain administrators, users and groups are created and assigned a wide range of data access permissions.  Permission can be set to create, update, and view work management activities and data fields.  Designer also provides a customization environment for key data forms and fields.  The ability to change field labels, colors, and other font characteristics for each domain allows easy customization throughout the enterprise.
