POWER Engineers, Inc. announced today that its Geospatial and Asset Management Solutions Unit completed the first phase of the Cityworks® Asset Management System (AMS) implementation for the city of Novi, Mich. Currently being used within the city’s Department of Public Services, Cityworks will be extended to other types of public works, including storm water, sidewalks, and street tree management systems in the future.

The city of Novi Department of Public Services (DPS) and Information Technology Department chose Cityworks after an extensive five-year evaluation of the best asset management practices adopted by communities across the nation. The city is now leveraging location-based, asset management technology across multiple service areas to efficiently capture, respond to, and satisfy calls for over 110 types of citizen requests; to generate work orders; and to provide accurate cost reporting.

POWER, a Platinum Cityworks business partner, provided software configuration and implementation services, training, system documentation, and oversaw the system’s successful deployment. POWER is the lead consultant for over 30 projects across the nation, enabling local communities to fully leverage the Cityworks AMS solution.

POWER was responsible for aligning the Cityworks technology to the work practices in the DPS divisions to meet current and future operational demands. Cityworks enables the city to streamline work processes for essential service delivery functions, including work order management, scheduling preventive maintenance, responding to citizen service requests, retrieving asset maintenance histories, and creating standardized reports for expense summaries and budget preparation.

Bart Koenig, Business Unit Director for POWER’s Geospatial/AMS Solutions, stated: “The city’s strong project management focus and use of collaborative tools to collect and share information were key to accomplishing the project goals within the city’s timeframe and allocated budget. The city’s project team did a great job keeping the project on point throughout its duration.” The project started in January 2012 and the system went live on May 14, 2012.
